Field Trip
If you have not turned in your permission slip and money, please do so as soon as possible! Money and Permission slips were due today.  Also, THANK YOU for the parents who have volunteered to attend the field trip with us.  You MUST fill out a background check at least 10 days before the trip.  You can find the background check on the TCE website.  Please complete those as soon as possible. :-)

April 10th and 11th - STAAR testing.  No outside visitors in the building at all

Don't forget to sign and return your child's report card.
Don't forget to send a snack each day.  We are very hungry in the afternoon!!!

Next week.....
Language Arts
Our next two wall words will be "where" and "come".  We are almost to our 42 kindergarten sight words!!!  

Our first writing journals came home this week.  We hope you enjoyed looking through them and marveling at the progress that they have made.  Wait until you see what we can do with our new lined journals!  We are AMAZING!!!!!

Social Studies
We will continue to learn  about different land forms on the earth and where you can find them. We have some great vocabulary to go with this unit of study:  peninsula, valley, bay, island, volcano, etc. 

Math  
We will continue to make comparisons while we measure.  We will also collect, sort, and organize data in order to create real object and picture graphs.  Learners will draw conclusions form the data they collect. 

Math Home Activity 
Have your child compare the weights of two household objects.  Then have him or her use the terms heavier and lighter to describe the weights.  

Science: 
We will be researching animals and sorting them by their unique characteristics, such as body covering, number of legs, habitats, etc..Learners will also sort pictures into self selected groups on characteristics then describe how they sorted them.

Field Trip
 Kindergarten will be taking a field trip to the Dallas Zoo on April 12th.  We sent  home field trip permission forms this past week.  We would LOVE lots of chaperones to attend the field trip with us.  If you think you might like to come, please return the permission slip and make sure that you go on the TCE website and have a background check filled out.  We cannot take any parents who have not filled out a background check.  Thank you!!! ALL PERMISSION SLIPS ARE DUE MARCH 29th.  If your child did not bring one home, please contact your teacher.

Language Arts
We are working in our new lined journals when writing.  We are concentrating on expository writing.

We continue to use fluency when reading while making text connections to what we are reading.

Social Studies
We are learning about different land forms on the earth and where you can find them.

Math  
Students will observe that certain attributes of an object can be measured. Learners will make direct comparisons of items being measured.  For example, direct comparisons can be done by laying objects next to each other, or setting them on opposite sides of a balance, or filling two containers with scoops of rice.  

Math Home Activity

Science: 
Learners will continue to sort animals into groups based on physical characteristics such as color, size, or body covering. Learners will begin to discover habitats of a variety of animals.

Open House
Thank you to everyone who was able to come out to Open House!  We absolutely LOVED sharing all of our work with you!!  We are so proud of our angels!!! 

Field Trip

When we return from spring break we will be in our new reading levels and working hard!  We will be talking about text connection and how we can relate to what is happening in the story.  

We are also continue on comprehension when reading and being able to answer (and prove your answer) when reading.

When we return from spring break we will be starting our Geography unit.  We will be studying landforms, maps, and our world around us.

Math

Show your child a pencil and ask him or her to find an object that is longer than the pencil.  Repeat with an object that is shorter that the pencil and one that is about the same length.  

Science: 
We will begin our unit on living things.  Learners will sort animals into groups based on physical characteristics such as color, size, or body covering.

Open House

Mark you calendars for Thursday, March 8th from 5:30 - 7:00!  TCE is having an Open House!!!  Kindergarten has been working very hard to get things ready to show you.  We can't wait to share our learning with our families!!  Hope to see you all there!!

Language Arts
We are assessing reading levels for the next report card.  We are so proud of how well everyone is reading!  Keep up the great work!  If your child hasn't mastered the first 30 words on our sight word list, please help at home.  We will be rechecking weekly to make sure we have all mastered these words.  Thank you!!

We are also working on comprehension when reading and being able to answer (and prove your answer) when reading.

Social Studies
We will continue our famous American unit learning about what it means to be a president and how they have changed our world.  

Math  
We will discuss the shape of the flat surfaces of three dimensional shapes.  Learners will continue to sort, describe and identify solid shapes based on characteristics of the shapes.  Learners will solve problems using logical reasoning.


Home Activity for math -  Have your child identify a household object that is shaped like a three-dimensional shape.  Have your child tell you what shape the flat surface of the object is.  

Science: 
Learners will continue to  study about the life cycle of a plant: Learners will observe how seeds change and what changes does a plant undergo throughout its life cycle.
