Next week.....

Language Arts

Our two new wall words will be "we" and "are".  We will continue to talk about what makes a good sentence and how words are separated by spaces and end with punctuation.  We have been practicing reading by reading with our buddies and touching each word as we read.  
***Flashcards are a great way of learning sight words.  Just keep adding our two new words to your collection each week.  Just a quick daily review of the words will help your child retain those words.  Sight Words your child should know:  I, like, can, see, a, said   

Social Studies
We will continue our study about community helpers and how they help us.

Math 
Learners will apply what they know about ordering numbers to word problems.  Learners will continue to work on counting strategies and also compare sets of objects up to at least 20 using comparative language. 

Please continue to work with your children on the math activity that was sent home.   We appreciate your help and support.  

Science: 
This week in science we will be investigating different materials.  We will be sorting these materials based on their properties.

Lunchtime Visitors

Having a lunch time visitor once in a while is such a special treat. Here are a couple reminders about the cafeteria and lunch time:  Please remember that if you are joining your child for lunch, you and your child need to be sitting at the visitor table so you can enjoy each other's company.  We are trying to promote independence and social interactions with the learners and their peers. This is a wonderful time for kids to learn to take care of their own needs and how to clean up after themselves. Due to time constraints and privacy reasons, the teacher in the cafeteria will not be available to talk with you about your child.  Please feel free to set up a conference or send an email if there is something you need to discuss.

Social Studies
We are starting our Community Helpers unit.  We will be discussing different jobs around the community and how they help our city.  

Math 
We will continue to describe numbers 1 through 25 in a variety of ways.  We will count forward and backwards to at least 20 with and without objects.   

Please continue to work with your children on the math activity that was sent home.   We appreciate your help and support.  The children also have been using their math teacher's website to practice subitizing and counting.  Please feel free to log onto the website and have them practice at home.  

Science
We have had a fun week using our scientific tools to observe and describe physical properties of materials.  This week learners will  begin to investigate how materials can be changed by heating and cooling.

Next week.....

Language Arts

Our two new sight words (wall words) will be "can" and "see".  Remember, sight words are words that your child should be able to instantly recognize.  Please make sure you are keeping up with our words at home so you can help your child.  Flashcards with the words on them are great!  We will also be discussing what makes up a sentence (complete thought, uppercase letter to start, period to end).
We will also be starting our Literacy Stations.  We can't wait!! 

Social Studies

In Social Studies we will be talking about friendships and how to be a good friend.  We can't wait to meet everyone's special friends on Friday!!

Special Friends Day

Special Friends day is September 22nd.  Each learner is invited to bring a special friend to our classroom to visit.  The kindergarten time is 11:15 - 12:15.  There will be refreshments and a couple of activities in your child's classroom.  You may also attend the book fair and take a tour of the school.  Your special friend may also attend lunch with us from 10:45 - 11:15 in the cafeteria.

Social Studies

We will continue talking about the people who work in our school and out school rules.  We are doing a great job learning all the rules!!

Math
We will begin to explore numbers 1-25.   We will be able to describe a number in several different ways including saying, writing, diagrams, and pictures.  We will also begin math stations.  Be on the look out for a letter describing strategies to help counting our numbers to 30 at home.  We so appreciate your help!  

Science
We have begun using our science journal to record our observations. We will finish up our unit on the five senses and how scientist use tools.  We will be visiting the TCE Garden to practice using our sense of sight and touch.
